Mid-air plane crash in Colorado kills 3

At least three people were believed to be killed when two planes collided in mid-air on Saturday about 1:30 pm near the Boulder Municipal Airport in Boulder County, Colorado. The victims are still to be identified, authorities say.

The accident happened when a small plane hit another aircraft, a Piper Pawnee of Mile High Gliding Inc., which was towing a glider and took off from the Boulder airport. The people on board the glider were unhurt.

The plane that hit the Piper Pawnee was a single-engine, four-seat Cirrus SR20. Details as to where the plane had taken off have not yet been confirmed. Crash debris have scorched areas in the Rocky Mountain foothills, but caused no injuries for people on ground.

Investigation as to why the collision happened is still going on.
