SimplicITy: The computer for older users

simplicITy desktop computer pcA new computer designed for people over 60 who want to learn how to use the computer and the Internet was recently unveiled.

SimplicITy is a stripped-down desktop PC with only six buttons on screen to guide users to do simple tasks like chat and e-mail.  Also included are 17 video tutorials.

SimplicITy users will not encounter a log-in screen.  They will go directly to a front page named Square One, which contains buttons for web browsing, e-mail, files, chat, and user profile.

SimplicITy was created by Valerie Singleton in partnership with Wessex Computers.  Singleton has a website called discount-age.co.uk.

According to British government statistics, over six million people age 65 and above don’t know how to use the Internet.

  1. Looked at at number of articles on the SimplicITy computer and NO WHERE could I find
the price of this machine. I know a number of older people this would be perfect for
but if I have no idea of the price how can I even discuss article with them???

I do NOT need the machine as I use regular PC but just thinking of other
people that I know that just can not grasp computing with regular machine..

    Thank you

  2. BRILLIANT

  3. Interesting is this, as in year 2000 I published a short tutorial of Microsoft Publisher for fast track learning of this software. When it was used for the first time during Government trials an 82-year-old lady completed her entire publication in just 53 minutes with nil faults. The publication is called ‘Easy Publisher’ and has only three pages of content excluding the front and rear cover. Every one on the trial had only basic keyboard skills and no prior knowledge of the software.

Your Government wanted me to publish more yet would not employ me to do so, I was unemployed at the time.

  4. It’s fantastic that Open Source is helping people to get to grips with technology, and we welcome this as a great achievement. As such, we’re offering support and training and consultancy to anyone who wants to implement this system. Get in touch for more information
