MagicJack device for cell phones allows free calls inside the house

YMax Corp. has announced a new magicJack that let users make free cell phone calls inside their homes for one year.

The magicJack connects to cellular carriers’ radio frequencies, without permission.

YMax CEO Dan Borislow said that wireless spectrum licenses doesn’t extend into homes so magicJack is legal.

The device needs to be plug-in into a personal computer that has a broadband internet connection and it will be like your own little cellular tower inside your house.  It then detects other compatible cellular phones within eight feet and allows you to make a free call to it after entering some short codes.

YMax said that the device can be use within a 3,000-square-foot home.

The magicJack will be available in about four months and will sell for $40, the company said.

The Federal Communications Commission and other cellular carriers are still looking into the legality of the device.
