John ‘Jack’ Murtha dies at 77 due to complications from gallbladder surgery

Rep. John Patrick “Jack” Murtha, Jr. died on Monday at the age of 77 due to complications from gallbladder surgery.  Murtha passed away at Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, Va.

Murtha was a Democrat and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania’s 12th district since February 5, 1974.

Murtha was a former Marine Corps officer and also the first Vietnam War veteran elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
