Corazon Aquino, Philippines’ First Female President, dies at 76

Former Philippine President Corazon “Cory” Aquino passed away at 3:18 a.m. Saturday (local time) due to cardiac arrest.

Aquino was battling with colon cancer for more than a year.

The former president will be best remembered as an icon of people power in her country and around the world. She was the one who deposed Ferdinand Marcos and brought back freedom and democracy for the Filipinos.

The Aquino family will further announce the details for her wake.
